Who can schedule a driving test online?

Applicants who have been registered in the Applus system by a driver license office employee. If you have not been registered, you must visit a driver license office in person for assistance and to make sure you are eligible.

Important Requirement

  • Completion of Impact Texas Driving (ITD) will be required for all individuals that have taken a teen or adult driver education course or for drivers 18 and older who may or may not be required to complete a driver education course. You are required to present a Certificate of Completion before taking a drive skills test and it must be dated within 90 days of the skills test.   • Use the calendar in the scheduler to view available dates and times.
  • You may schedule appointments between one day and 90 days in advance.
  • Customers may only schedule one appointment.
  • Individuals must schedule their own appointments; driving schools may not schedule for them.
  • Duplicate appointments will be canceled without notice.
  • After scheduling, you will have the opportunity to view and print a confirmation page with information about preparing for your appointment.


What you will need to schedule your drive test appointment:

To make sure you have everything you need for your visit, please carefully review what you will need to apply for a driver license at www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/ApplyforLicense.htm and bring the following items to your appointment:

1.  Your Texas learner license or Texas driver license with B restriction;

2.  The driving test fee (www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/fees.htm) or the payment receipt if you have already paid. (Note: payment is good for only 90 days - date of expiration is listed on the payment receipt. You will be required to:  1. make payment again after expiration and 2. present all required documents again.);

3.  If you are younger than 25, proof of driver education. Depending on the type of class you took, you will need to provide one of these documents:

  • Texas Driver Education Certificate (DE-964).
  • Parent Taught Driver Education Affidavit (DL-90B)  OR
  • Adult Driver Education Certificate (ADE-1317);

4.  If you are under 18, a Verification of Enrollment (VOE) form, high school diploma or GED;

5.  Proof of current liability insurance (in paper format – proof via smart phone will not be accepted) for the vehicle to be used for the road test;

6.  A vehicle for the road test that meets all of these requirements:

  • Current registration sticker;
  • Two license plates with the front plate attached to the bumper (not required if you are borrowing the vehicle and it is properly registered in a state that does not require two plates);
  • No unusual mechanical issues (such as having doors that do not open from inside or outside the vehicle – this will result in failure of the vehicle inspection); AND
  • All of the vehicle safety requirements described at Driving Test Requirements.

If you use a rental vehicle for the test, the person taking the driving test must be listed on the rental agreement as an authorized driver. You must show proof that the rental vehicle is covered by liability insurance either by accepting the liability damage waiver when you rent the vehicle or by showing proof that your personal auto liability insurance covers rental vehicles.

  • Please arrive one hour early for your appointment for processing and/or payment. If you do not arrive one hour early, your appointment may be rescheduled.
  • Appointments must be scheduled using the customer's Texas driver license number or learner license number. Otherwise, the appointment will be canceled.
  • NO additional passengers (this includes infants, children, family members and / or friends) will be allowed in the vehicle during the driving test.
